IMCHC Advocacy Day 2013

  Released date: May 14, 2013

On April 11, 2013, 200 youth advocates and adult allies descended on the Capitol to advocate for school health centers, mental health services, and sex-ed reform, which passed the House 66-52 on April 17 after 3 years of hard work!

Attendees represented 10 organizations from around the state including youth groups and school health centers from Chicago, Cicero, Park Ridge, Evanston, and Champaign-Urbana.

Students spent the morning learning about organizing and the ins-and-outs of the democratic process. Afterwards, students marched to the Capitol and were able to speak with several legislators and Governor Pat Quin!

Closing out the event, students gathered at the Rotunda and for an energizing speech by Senator Kotowski where he reaffirmed his support of school health centers and adolescent health initiatives and talked to the students about leadership. Students also spoke at the rally and discussed why adolescent health matters to them. The event was a great success and we are hope for your continued support so that we can bring even more attendees in 2014!
