Affordable Care Act and Young Adults

The Affordable Care Act has had a drastic effect on the way millions of us access health care and insurance and keeping up with continued changes can be overwhelming, especially for organizations already facing time and budget constraints. That is why the Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition has put together a toolkit on the Affordable Care Act. This go-to resource answers the most common questions about health reform in a way that is easy to understand and includes periodic updates as implementation of this monumental legislation continues. It is ideal for professionals trying to understand the benefits to their clients or looking for a way to quickly explain changes.

IMCHC Advocacy Day 2013

On April 11, 2013, 200 youth advocates and adult allies descended on the Capitol to advocate for school health centers, mental health services, and sex-ed reform, which passed the House 66-52 on April 17 after 3 years of hard work!
Attendees represented 10 organizations from around the state including youth groups and school health centers from Chicago, Cicero, Park Ridge, Evanston, and Champaign-Urbana.
Students spent the morning learning about organizing and the ins-and-outs of the democratic process. Afterwards, students marched to the Capitol and were able to speak with several legislators and Governor Pat Quin!
Closing out the event, students gathered at the Rotunda and for an energizing speech by Senator Kotowski where he reaffirmed his support of school health centers and adolescent health initiatives and talked to the students about leadership. Students also spoke at the rally and discussed why adolescent health matters to them. The event was a great success and we are hope for your continued support so that we can bring even more attendees in 2014!

Prom Party with a Purpose 2011

We send a special thanks to the 7th District Police Department who spearheaded the event!There were over 80 teenage girls and boys that attended and received prom attire. In addition, young women and men modeled the dresses in a fashion show, and received information from participating organizations on teen dating safety, domestic violence, reproductive health, and the dangers of drunk driving.
