Chicago Area Immunization Campaign (CAIC)

HPV Vaccination Project

The HPV Vaccination Project is made possible due to funding from the Chicago Department of Public Health.  This initiative implements an HPV education and vaccination program for Chicago women and girls between the ages of 9 and 26 who otherwise would not know about the HPV vaccine and may not be able to find it or afford it for 2010-2011.

The clinics participating in the project are Access Cabrini Family Health Center, Chicago State University – Wellness Health Center, Christian Community Health, Cottage Medical Center, Erie Family Health Center, Heartland Health Center, Lawndale Christian Health Center, Little Village Women’s Health, Shirley Wong, M.D., and Young Family Health Associates.

The Human Papillomavirus, commonly known as HPV, is a virus that causes cervical cancer and other problems such as genital warts.   About 10,000 women in the US will develop cervical cancer, and about 80% of women will be infected with HPV in their lifetime.
