Chicago Area Immunization Campaign (CAIC)
About Us
What is the Chicago Area Immunization Campaign?
A project of the Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition, the Chicago Area Immunization Campaign (CAIC) is a broad-based coalition of more than 100 Chicago area public and private sector organizations working together to increase immunization rates and prevent diseases by promoting the delivery of safe, effective and timely immunizations.
The CAIC was organized in 1991 in response to the 1990 measles epidemic and the low immunization rates for young children in the Chicago area. The successful efforts of the CAIC have contributed greatly to raising childhood immunization rates from below 30% in 1991 to over 70% today. Yet, work is still needed. Large pockets of under-immunized children and adults in Chicago and the surrounding counties still remain. Additionally, there is a greater need to educate adolescents on the importance of immunizations and to ensure access to vaccines for this population.
