Governor Blagojevich announces plans to bolster healthcare security for 500,000
people

Vetoes $500 million in “pork” and other non-essential spending from state budget in order to expand healthcare programs like FamilyCare and to provide premium assistance to families struggling to pay their high monthly premiums for health insurance

U.S. Congress takes step to fulfill commitment to children’s healthcare

SCHIP reauthorization bills were passed by both the House and the Senate, but the fight is not over yet! The President has threatened to veto both bills, so it is critical that members of Congress know how important SCHIP is to low-income and middle-class American families.

IMCHC was invited to participate in a healthcare rally featuring Michael Moore at the Daley Centennial Plaza in Millennium Park. At the rally, IMCHC Executive Director Robyn Gabel joined such prominent speakers as Studs Terkel, State Representative Mary Flowers, Dr. Quentin Young and of course Michael Moore himself in highlighting the main theme of the movie – the urgent need for major healthcare reform in the United States.

Later that evening, Robyn Gabel and IMCHC Associate Director Laura Leon were among the invited guests for a special advance screening of SiCKO.

Back-to-School Press Conference at St. Pius V School

IMCHC helped to organize a press conference, hosted by St. Pius V School in Chicago, featuring the Director of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Barry Maram, and several prominent local leaders. The event was part of a coordinated statewide effort to increase access to healthcare through enrollment into the recently expanded All Kids and FamilyCare programs. In all, more than 1,700 schools from 96 towns and cities across the state participated in the effort.

Annual All Kids Back-to-School Health Fair

IMCHC joined with the Chicago Children’s Museum to host the annual health fair that provides free physicals, screenings, and easy enrollment into All Kids and FamilyCare, all within the fun and playful environment of the Children’s Museum at Navy Pier.

The partners held a press conference with Governor Blagojevich to boost attendance at the fair and to raise awareness about All Kids.

Chicago Fire Children’s Health Care Coverage Day 

The Chicago Fire, as part of a partnership between Covering Kids & Families and Major League Soccer, designated their game of August 16 to be Children’s Health Care Coverage Day. All attendees to the game received information about All Kids in their free game programs, and All Kids ads were played on the Jumbotron and loudspeakers during the course of the game. IMCHC Executive Director Robyn Gabel attended the game and presented the Chicago Fire with the Loretta Lacey Advocacy Award during a special halftime ceremony.
