Chicago Area Immunization Campaign

COMMITTEES

Public Awareness

The campaign works with its members to create realistic public education programs that stress the need for timely immunizations. These messages reinforce the need to start immunizations early and to complete the entire series. Campaign members ensure that the messages are culturally sensitive  and correct. New immunizations will be explained and promoted.

Community Outreach

Through its diverse membership, the CAIC is best able to bring together community based organizations to craft strategies that will reach communities whose coverage levels are particularly low. By working with parents and community leaders, the CAIC effectively spreads the word the infants need to receive complete series of immunizations by age two. By working with public and private  health care providers serving areas, service delivery can be enhanced to make immunizations more accessible.

Registry Workgroup

The Workgroup was formed in response to our membership and a national call from the National Immunization Registry Meeting for a coalition approach to meeting Healthy People 2010 Goal: 95% of 0 -6 population in a fully functioning registry by 2010. This workgroup, through it's provider education and incentives sub-committee, provider and consumer focus groups, and legislative advocacy efforts, is working to get legislation passed establishing a mandate for provider participation in the statewide TOTS registry.

Community Immunization Information Workgroup

The Community Immunization Information Workgroup is the newest committee of the Chicago Area Immunization Campaign that will work to create effective messages for children, adolescents and adults.  The purpose of this group is to put together a set of informational flyers to be distributed throughout the Chicagoland area to improve community members’ ability to relate to immunization messages.  The flyers will be distributed throughout several different communities using different faces to promote the same messages.  To achieve this new goal of CAIC, we will be recruiting a group of faith, medical, and community leaders that will represent the geographic, ethnic, and cultural identities of each community.

If you are interested in joining the CAIC and/or any of these committees listed above please contact Brian Bragg, Project Director at 312.491.8161 or caic@ilmaternal.org.
