Adult Immunization Workgroup
The Adult Immunization Workgroup, added to the Chicago Area Immunization Campaign (CAIC) in January 2005, focuses on outreach to adults in the Chicagoland area. Objectives are to increase awareness and education of the Influenza and Pneumococcal disease vaccines among seniors while effectively communicating the importance of vaccines in living a healthy life. This new Adult Immunization Workgroup has successfully begun a faith-based initiative that will reach out to faith-based organizations in underserved communities in the Chicagoland area to promote immunizations in the church.

Within the Adult Immunization Workgroup are different committees that focus on separate goals concerning immunizations: The Adult Immunization Public Awareness Committee, is the main committee for the Adult Immunization Initiative of the Chicago Area Immunization Campaign. The Committee will work to create effective public education programs that stress the importance of timely immunizations for adults. In committee meetings we discuss partnering efforts, ideas for events and activities and outreach strategies in order to fulfill our goal of getting adults immunized against Influenza and Pneumococcal Disease. The Faith-based Committee of the Adult Immunization Public Awareness Committee is a sub-committee of the public awareness group. This committee focuses on outreach to churches and other faith-based organizations in the Chicagoland area to encourage faith leaders to actively inform their congregants and community members on the importance of timely immunizations. The Media Committee of the Adult Immunization Public Awareness Committee is a sub-committee of the group that will work to promote immunization messages in local newspapers, organizational newsletters and television.
